Olsen Baseball Field Tour

Recently, the Aggie Turf Club took a VIP tour of Olsen Field.  Thanks goes out to Nick McKenna, Athletic Field Manager for Texas A&M for an outstanding tour and educational experience.  Nick shared with students about the unique challenges and rewards that come from managing baseball fields at the collegiate level.

Turfgrass Science Students are putting green at the TAMU Turf Field Lab

Turfgrass Science Students in the Sports Field Construction Class are currently gaining ‘hands-on’ experience building a USGA putting green at the TAMU Turf Field Lab.

The Aggie Turf Club volunteered the Big Event

The Aggie Turf Club volunteered their time and talents for the Big Event last weekend by prepping and laying sod for a local family. Participating in the effort were (L to R) Homeowners Dr. and Mrs. Pitts, Zhaoxin Chen, Wes Dyer, Matthew Peterman, Scott Gee, Calvin Wilson, Christian Canafax, and Sam Irwin. Not pictured- Dr. Wherley and Kevin Hejl. Big Event is the largest, one-day student led volunteer effort in the nation.

Thanks to Eric Bauer, Director of Agronomy at Bluejack National, for spending time with Aggie Turf Club tonight. Some great insights on what it takes to be successful in the golf industry and the value of a golf course superintendent during the planning and construction phase.

Turfgrass Science Students attended the GCSAA Education Conference in Orlando, FL

Texas A&M Turfgrass Science Students recently attended the Golf Course Superintendents Assn. of America Conference in Orlando, FL.  Students had the opportunity to network with future employers, learn about new technologies, and attend educational sessions.  The GCSAA Education Conference is the largest education event in the industry, with over 13,000 attendees this year, and covers all aspects of golf course management, including agronomics, environmental management, communications, leadership and business management.
