The Aggie Turf Club held a putt-putt fundraiser October 30 and 31 at the Scotts MiracleGro Facility on F&B Road in College Station. The contest raised funds for student travel to the upcoming Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and the Sports Turf Managers Association conferences. The 2021-22 Aggie Turfgrass Club kicked off the fall semester on September 21, with an 18-hole putting competition on the newly created putting course at the Scotts turfgrass lab in College Station. The course was designed and constructed by the students in the SCSC 427-Sports Field Construction course, using Lazer zoysiagrass. Weston Appelfeller, CSFM and Director of Grounds for the Austin FC MLS soccer club was the guest speaker at Aggie Turf Club today. He shared with the students about the vision and construction progress being made to build the new facility that will be home to Austin FC, which will officially join the MLS in spring 2021. Damian Micahlewicz and Bailey Simmons presented information about their summer internship at the October 16 meeting of the Aggie Turf Club. The pair spent the summer at the Boot Ranch Golf Club in Fredericksburg, TX.
At this past week’s Aggie Turf Club, Turfgrass Science students Nick Patschke and Garrison Moczygemba presented on their summer internships with Helena Ag over the past summer. This internship gave the students exposure to the sales, distribution, and research side of the industry.
